Art Competition

Congratulations to our winner, Kedeasha Jackson!

The Chair of the Loddon Mallee Aboriginal Reference Group, Mr. Dallas Widdicombe, has announced Kedeasha Jackson as the winner of our art competition.

“Our lives, our future, our solutions”

“We had strong entries from talented artists but our judging panel of Elders from across the LMARG region, was unanimous in choosing Kedeasha Jackson’s artwork, which represents strength through unity, for our new branding.

“The Panel felt that Kedeasha’s work captured LMARG’s vision which speaks to the importance of self-determination and a strong, united Aboriginal voice,” Mr. Widdicombe said.

“The purpose of the art competition was to develop a unique identity which complements the culture and values that underpin LMARG. By engaging with our local artists and adopting an original artwork by an artist living in our region to define our new image, we hope to further embed LMARG in the communities we collectively work to support.”

For her part, Kedeasha Jackson is excited to see her work translate into the branding for LMARG.

“My artwork represents our connections to our ancestors and our history – it captures our strong, black and deadly voices that speak for our communities, the commitment to creating opportunities for black communities, to saving black communities and to building the foundations for our future generations.”

Mr. Widdicombe said that Kedeasha’s design was bold and that the sense of collective action it articulated aligned with the approach LMARG is taking to all its activities.

“We review and develop our strategy, policies and activities through a cultural lens, and we have embraced a collaborative work-model to drive better outcomes for our community.”
